Who we are

For more than 150 years the World Museum has shown natural wonders from all over the world. Nowadays the museum combines treasures from across the globe with the latest technology and live exhibits. Interactive hands on centres help visitors to get up close to everything from tropical fish to ancient fossils. The Treasure House Theatre hosts live performances, the World Cultures Gallery profiles human cultures from different countries and the museum houses the country’s only free planetarium. There are five different levels depicting the oceans through to the stars and attractions include the Bug House, Aquarium, Clore Natural History Centre and the Weston Discovery Centre, where visitors can handle objects and specimens and talk to expert demonstrators. Pupils can take a trip to Africa, the Americas, Oceania and Asia, hear hundreds of stories, see amazing objects and meet the many cultures represented on the World Cultures Gallery. There is much on offer for schools at the World Museum, reaching across all Key Stages and abilities with the emphasis being upon providing access to the wide and varied collections, coupled with the opportunity to handle and interact with actual objects and specimens.
