Who we are

Speke Hall is a 16th century timber-framed building with a largely Victorian interior strongly influenced by its Tudor past. With formal gardens, semi-ancient woodlands and an estate walk with views to the Mersey and Liverpool Airport, Speke Hall is a wonderful place to bring students interested in History. There are a number of programmes on offer and bespoke activities can be negotiated with the Education Staff. Activities include taking a Tudor morning tour followed by an afternoon session where students will learn what Tudor children would have worn and how table settings related to wealth and status. Pupils can bring along an orange and make a pomander, a 16th-century scented ball, or pupils can take a tour inside and outside the Hall, looking at how it was built, the family that built it and how both were affected by religious and political changes. Pupils can also learn Tudor dancing and see replica costumes. The Victorian interiors that were left by the last owner of Speke Hall and the Victorian innovations including William Morris Wallpaper can be explored too and exam groups studying Leisure and Tourism are also welcome.
