Who we are
The RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre was set up in 1987 to maintain the records and history of the base and to commemorate the work of the hundreds of men and women who served their country at Burtonwood Air Base from 1940 to 1993. At that time, Burtonwood was the largest airfield in Europe and was used by the USA during World War 2 and the Cold War. The centre, which has recently been refurbished, is based on the site of Gullivers World theme park in Old Hall. Inside visitors can find new displays, films, props and military memorabilia to encourage people of all ages to delve into their local history. A visit to the Heritage Centre is particularly suited to children in Key Stage Two, although other age groups can be catered for. Visits entail a self-led tour around the centre, taking full advantage the interactive displays that can be watched and listened to. A visit to the Heritage Centre can easily be combined with a visit to the Gullivers World Theme Park.
