Who we are
The People’s History Museum in Manchester tells the dramatic story of the British working class’s struggle for democracy and social justice. The extensive learning programme brings to life the belief there have always been ideas worth fighting for. Bring your students on a march through time to meet the revolutionaries, reformers, workers, voters and citizens who fought our battle for the ballot. Gather amongst their magnificent banners and discover how time off was won (and spent). Discover fascinating histories, incredible facts and hands-on interactives which bring thousands of objects to life. All of the programmes support appropriate learning frameworks; from the Little People’s History Museum stories to Living History workshops, from Build a Banner sessions to A level studies in the archive, there is something available for everyone. Many of the sessions are suitable for or can be adapted for learners with special needs. There is a purpose built Learning Studio for their creative pARTicipate workshops, a fully equipped mini theatre at the heart of the museum for Living History performances and Little People’s History Museum story sessions, as well as additional spaces for lectures, talks and workshops. The Labour History Archive & Study Centre can be booked for introducing students to using archives and has over 6,000 boxes of unique archive material. The People’s History Museum has lots of ideas in their learning programme to inspire you in your teaching and bring learning quite literally to life for your students.
