Who we are
900 years of history are brought to life through an award winning museum, spectacular 14th century St. Christopher statue and excavated medieval ruins set in acres of managed woodland. Norton Priory Museum and Gardens houses the Priory itself, the most excavated monastic site in Europe, featuring stone carvings, grave markers and the internationally significant twice life-sized, late 14th century statue of St. Christopher. The site also includes an 18th Century walled garden, ruins of the original monastery and Halton Castle. Norton Priory offers educational workshops for children and young people from Key Stages one to four as well as provision for Early Years and Further Education. There are a wide range of sessions available, from History workshops looking at the heritage of the Priory and Castle along with sessions on the home front and life as a Victorian child to workshops looking at Science and the Environment, Arts and Crafts and fascinating Storytelling Trails using Sculpture and Myths and Legends. As well as schools workshops, Norton Priory also has excellent links with local community groups and has delivered programmes to a variety of informal education settings.
