Who we are
Millom Discovery Centre is a local mining and social history museum. It tells the story of the lost industrial heritage of the small rural town of Millom and its remarkable journey through the past. Students can learn about railways which served the iron industry and discover the fashion of days gone by. A full reconstruction of the Hodbarrow Mining Cage brings to life the working conditions of the Victorian era. There is also an exhibition dedicated to the local poet Norman Nicholson which guides students through his work and life. The museum is an excellent resource for local schools who want to discover more about the history of the local area. Schools can book a self-led visit and access the museum’s resources and activities. There is a small charge for school visits.
