Who we are
The Macclesfield Silk Museums give a glimpse into the Silk Industry in the early 1900s and its importance to the town of Macclesfield. The Macclesfield Silk Museums three sites tell the story of silk from scientific, industrial and personal perspectives, giving a well-rounded experience. Macclesfield Silk Museums comprises three different heritage sites. The Silk Industry Museum follows the industrial journey of silk from cocoon to loom. Next door the Paradise Mill will take you back to the early 1900s to experience a working mill first hand. Finally, the Heritage Centre gives you a glimpse of the lives of the people who were involved in the silk industry and shows you the products of their labours in a costume gallery. The Macclesfield Silk Museums offer a series of workshops that are designed to complement the history curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2. Topics covered include the Victorians, Egyptians and Silk and Science. The Museums also offer a wide range of loan boxes that are available for hire.
