Who we are
Lytham Hall is a fine grade 1 listed 18th century manor house on the Lancashire coast set in 80 acres of mature parkland. It was built for Thomas Clifton by John Carr of York between 1752-1764 on the site of an earlier manor house and Priory settled by Benedictine monks from Durham. The school tours give an insight into the Hall’s early origins in the 12th century as a Priory for exiled monks as well as the history and lifestyle of the colourful Clifton family who acquired the hall and park after the dissolution of the monasteries. The tour also introduces pupils to the use of the Hall as a hospital for wounded Soldiers during World War One and World War Two. Pupils can also enjoy the wider estate where they’ll find a number of grade 2 listed buildings including an 850 roost dovecote, stable block and the Gatehouse.
