Who we are
How many museums do you know where you can see real soldiers ? A brand new Learning Room is opening in spring 2013 for schools which will re-create a World War One Recruitment Room. Book a schools session at the Lancashire Infantry Museum at Fulwood Barracks and find out about how soldiers were recruited, and then look round the Museum to find out more about the life of a soldier from the regiment as well as their contribution to wartime from pre-World War One through to present-day Afghanistan. As well as experiencing a working Barracks, pupils will work with collections which include weaponry and uniform, medals and regimental colours, as well as soldiers’ personal items such as diaries and letters. The earliest items date from 1689 and represent a vital role played by our “Lancashire Lads” in the defence of our country. The new schools sessions will be linked to the programme at the other museums in Preston to give pupils’ a full exploration of World War One in time for the 100th anniversary in 2014.
