Who we are
The Harris has wonderful collections of social history, costume, fine art and decorative art, as well as a special building in the heart of the city. A trip to the Harris is a great way to fire young imaginations. Explore the collections to create fantastic sculptures, handle genuine artefacts that bring history to life and invent your own Greek myth. The building is the centrepiece of Preston town centre and has a brand new gallery on Preston’s history with its own interactive flexible workspace ideal for schools. Explore what happened in Preston which led to the downfall of a king, use your detective skills to work out who killed the Poulton Elk, learn about the Preston inventor who changed the way we work, and discover what the Vikings left behind. A choice of workshops, developed in conjunction with teachers, are available for KS1/2 History, KS1/2 Literacy, KS1/2 Art & Design and Early Yrs / Foundation Stage pupils. The museum also supports self-led visits. The team make the whole thing easy for you – a booking line, risk assessments already completed, a room for picnic lunches, accessible spaces, and easy drop-off for minibuses or coaches.
