Who we are
Based in the Lake District National Park, Grizedale Arts is recognised as ‘one of the most significant arts organisations in Europe’ (the Guardian). Surrounded by forests, lakes and mountains, it's headquarters is the picturesque hill farm of Lawson Park from where it runs a unique and radical programme of artists’ projects that aim to make art useful in society. Our offer for young people during 2012/13 includes: - A series of residential visits for secondary school groups - A free weekly youth club session, open to young people in Coniston and the surrounding area - Internships, work experience and volunteering opportunities (for ages 16+). Our work with young people under the 'Rural Life School' banner offers a unique hands-on opportunity to gain an appreciation of the countryside and the communities that live there through direct involvement in the delivery of our artistic programme. Activities range from making produce for our Honesty Shop in Coniston village, to collaborating with our artists in residence and contributing to the running of our smallholding and vegetable garden at Lawson Park. As well as being fun and challenging, all of our activities encourage the development of new practical skills, greater self-confidence and improved social and interpersonal skills. Projects cover a range of subjects including Environmental Sustainability, Social Responsibility, Geography, Economics, Healthy Eating and Nutrition. We can accommodate a wide range of budgets, timescales and group sizes. Contact us to find out more or to see an example programme.
