Who we are

Green Close Studios, based in Melling near Carnforth, was established in 1996 to provide quality affordable and accessible studio space for practising professional visual artists. They collaborate with artists locally and nationally and they are recognised as being at the forefront of innovative work in contemporary arts in a rural context. By championing the role arts and creative excellence play in rural economic and social regeneration, they help to empower communities and their young people. Working within the public and private sector they lead, broker and deliver innovative and ambitious projects. The building provides designed spaces, catering for artists, schools, community groups and professional organisations. The studio layout is open-plan on three levels with disabled facilities on the ground floor. It provides workspace for practising professional artists & open resource areas for exhibitions, training, learning and creative workshop delivery. Green Close has an excellent track record of working with schools and young people both in the studio space and in the school environs. They offer a bespoke service for schools and young people working with teachers to support schools through a ‘complete process’ from project inception, fundraising & delivery, through to effective evaluation. Their work with young people uses creative processes to tackle complex issues and specialise in giving young people a voice and empowering them to develop their capacity to think, create and grow enabling them to become articulate and confident citizens in a challenging and complex society.
