Who we are

Gawsworth Hall is an attractive Stately Home in the Cheshire countryside with a fascinating history stretching back to the Norman times. The house was home to Samuel Johnson, Britain’s last professional jester and it has been suggested that another former resident of the hall, Mary Fitton, may have been the ‘dark lady’ of Shakespeare’s Sonnets! Gawsworth Hall is an excellent place to visit to get a flavour of the ways in which country houses have developed and grown over the course of centuries. The hall’s guided tour is most suited to young people of Key Stage Four and above. There are also events happening throughout the year including the annual open air theatre season in the Hall’s grounds.
