Who we are

Elizabeth Gaskell's House in Manchester is the former home of the famous author and her family. The house is a Grade II* listed property, built between 1835-1841 Thanks to a major £2.5m project the House opened to the public in October 2014. Visitors to the house can enjoy the beautifully restored period rooms and our magnificent Victorian garden.

What we do

Elizabeth Gaskell's House is a truly inspiring place for people to come and explore, learn and enjoy. We welcome school, community and group visits to the house and offer a range of activities and workshops. We are still developing our learning programme and welcome enquiries about collaborative projects with schools/
