Who we are

Cheshire Archives & Local Studies is where Cheshire’s history lives. The service identifies, collects and cares for archives and publications that are the evidence of Cheshire communities’ lives past and present. We deliver access for all to our collections for information, learning and enjoyment and work to make sure archives survive so that future generations will be able to do the same. Ask us how we can support the local history requirements of the National Curiculum using maps and plans, local photographs, trade directories and newspapers. You can access our people and places databases via our website. Also, online we have: Cheshire's Tithe Maps (http:maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps) which allows access to c500 maps and apportionment details from 1840s and 1850s which you can compare with later Ordnance Survey maps and aerial photos to answer questions like: What was our local area like? Who lived there? Who owned or occupied the land? What was it used for? The Cheshire Image Bank (cheshireimagebank.org.uk) has hundreds of photos of Cheshire people, places and events
