Who we are
Anderton Boat Lift provides children with a unique opportunity to experience what it is like to travel on a Victorian boat lift. The Boat Lift is an original working piece of Industrial History, originally built in 1875 to transport canal boats between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal. It also supplies a superb location from which to conduct a local study, observe wildlife and learn more about the history of the waterways, outside of the classroom environment. All workshops are hands-on, allowing young people to handle objects, look at costume and create their own pieces of art to take back to school. Pupils also have the opportunity to observe the boat lift working up close on a guided boat lift trip. Specialist workshops look at the Victorian era in which the lift came to be and illustrate to young people the importance of the Northwich area to industry. There is also a look at the lift as a work of art, looking at colour, line and texture. Workshops at the Anderton Boat Lift are targeted at Key Stage Two pupils.
