Liverpool & Knowsley Book Art Exhibition - Kirkby Gallery
Posted: 17/09/2018
Following the launch in Liverpool Central Library earlier this year,
The Liverpool & Knowsley Book Art Exhibition: Frankenstein will be exhibited in Kirkby Gallery until 26 January 2019. In addition to the work from Liverpool, there are additional artists and exciting new work specially commissioned for Knowsley
The theme of the exhibition marks 200 years since the first edition of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus was published.
Book artists from around the world have responded to the theme of Frankenstein with a hugely creative range of ideas. Some have been stimulated by the themes in the book; others have been inspired by the way the story is told; others have made links between Frankenstein and other classic stories such as Dracula and The Golem.
Mural in the making
Award winning illustrator and muralist Matthew Frame will be working in the gallery this week (until 21 September) creating a specially commissioned artwork 'Sacrifice/Mutation/Technology' as part of the exhibition - pop into the gallery to see how the artwork is progressing.
School Workshops
Throughout the exhibition, school groups can book a free combined visit to Kirkby Gallery and Kirkby Library to take part in Monster Mondays and Frightening Fridays (although if you can't make it on a Monday or Friday, we can book your school in on a Tuesday or Thursday).
Your class will begin in Kirkby Library looking at a range of creative / multi-sensory and pop-up books, storytelling (and where applicable, getting pupils enrolled for library memberships), before moving on to Kirkby Gallery to make a book art-inspired object to take away with them.
For more information about the exhibition or to book any of our school workshops or art courses, please contact Tina Ball on 0151 443 5617 or email tina.ball@knowsley.gov.uk
